End of Life Care and Final Days

End of Life Care and Final Days

It is the hardest time for any animal lover. And one that is often not explored. Please join us for a clinic on horse massage techniques and end-of-life considerations/discussions regarding our beloved animals of all shapes and sizes. At Labyrinth, we often take in horses in hospice to give them the final days/years they deserve. Most all animal lovers come to the moment when they must take on the hard considerations at the end of their companions life.

This event is intended to help support our volunteers and our community in these hard, important, and often profound transitions. This clinic will be led by Deborah Draves Legg (wellness and equine supported coach), Susan McKinstry (former owner of an equine rescue center), and Rachael Morris (equine masseur).

We hope you will join us!

The event is free, but please RSVP at: https://labyrinthtc.betterworld.org/events/support-our-animals-at-end

Beyond the Saddle Clinic

Days End Farm Horse Rescue’s Beyond the Saddle Clinic Series is a great opportunity for horse owners and enthusiasts alike to get one-on-one interaction with trainers, Sara Strauss and Leigha Schrader, in a semi-private lesson format. Working on your specific goals as a horseperson, the trainers want to help you discover that there is much more to your relationship with a horse than just riding.

Lessons will be semi-private, with two participants per hour between the hours of 9am and 4pm, with a 1-hour lunch break at noon. Participants are welcome and encouraged to stay before/after their lesson to audit and learn from the lessons of their fellow participants. Privately owned horses welcome with proof of an updated Coggins. A mall number of DEFHR horses will be available to those without a horse.

To participate with a horse please register here: https://defhr.org/calendar/

To participate as an “observer,” please register here: https://labyrinthtc.betterworld.org/events/beyond-saddle-horse-clinic

About the Trainers:

Sara is passionate about educating the adult horse person on ways to better communicate with horses, whether it is on the ground or under saddle.

Leigha enjoys teaching positive reinforcement and liberty training. She is also a fantastic teacher to the younger generation, with a focus on the hunter/jumper discipline.

Kids with Horses Workshop

Deborah Draves Legg, an Advanced Eponaquest Facilitator and Power of the Herd Instructor (among many other accolades), will lead LTC’s students through an interactive, innovative, experiential learning format that engages horses with humans. The Power of the Herd is a book written by Linda Kohanov that teaches leadership, self-confidence, and communication skills by working with horses to understand group dynamics.  Deborah uses a variety of horse-facilitated activities that effectively teach leadership and communication skills associated with the varied roles within a herd.  The workshop is designed to be fun and to teach participants how to use horse-inspired wisdom to engage in empowered relationships and handle challenges with greater ease and success.   Deborah has conducted workshops all over the world but recently moved to the Farmville area.  We are lucky to have her in the area and thrilled to partner with her to bring this opportunity to our students!
